BCSD Taiwan


A non-profit business organization, BCSD Taiwan has more than seventy members from leading companies in Taiwan, China. BCSD Taiwan joined the WBCSD shortly after its establishment in 1997. Our goal is to help Taiwanese companies create a roadmap for corporate sustainability.

About

n August 2021, Jonney Shih, the Chairman of ASUS, was appointed to lead BCSD Taiwan. With Mr. Shih’s forward-looking viewpoint, BCSD Taiwan believes that this will advance corporate sustainability in Taiwan, China and strengthen ties between the council and the business community.

Priorities

Currently, BCSD Taiwan focuses on climate action, positive nature, circular economy and sustainable finance with the following initiatives:

1.Climate action 

  • Strengthening collaboration with CDP, TCG and local think tanks.
  • Capacity building of local SMEs on GHG accounting and emission reduction actions.

2. Nature Positive

  • Launch of the Taiwan Nature Positive initiative to meet the World Nature Goal.
  • Collaboration with the Coalition of Capitals to advance the Nature Capital Protocol.
  • Introduced the WBCSD Readiness Assessment and Nature Positive Framework for member companies.
  • Acting as an observer in the WBCSD’s TNFD pilot program.

3. Circular Economy

  • Organising the Taiwan CTI User Group to advance CTI.

4. Sustainable Finance

  • Launched “Taiwan Sustainable Finance” to advance sustainable finance concepts, expertise, procedures and tools.
  • Established collaborative engagement through the WBCSD toolkits as a fiduciary and management duty for Taiwan Sustainable Finance members to reduce ESG risks and improve ESG performance of investment recipients and clients.

Among past achievements, BCSD Taiwan has introduced a number of initiatives to member companies, including eco-efficiency, corporate social responsibility (CSR), GHG protocol, GRI 3/3.1/4/standards, framework, reporting issues, application of ERM to ESG risks, guide for improving the quality of ESG information for decision making, natural capital protocol, and CTI 3.0.

BCSD Taiwan has also contributed to the development of policies for mandatory ESG reporting with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) and the Taipei Stock Exchange (TPEx) and has worked with Taiwan Index Plus Corporation to produce sustainability indices in Taiwan, China.
