WBCSD’s Center for Decarbonization Demand Acceleration

Who we are

Without credible, clear and targeted demand – industrial transformation will not occur at the speed and scale necessary.

At WBCSD, we believe in the power of radical value chain collaboration. That’s why we started the Center for Decarbonization Demand Acceleration (CDDA), a two-year, member-based demand accelerator made possible through our collaboration with the Centre for Green Market Activation (GMA) and Sustainable Procurement Pledge.

The CDDA leverages members’ engagement to address the policy, standards and procurement function capacity building that companies need to move from a demand “signal” to demand “action” for low and zero carbon materials in light and heavy industries. The Center helps members gain a clearer understanding of current opportunities to pool demand, harmonize metrics and definitions, and effectively direct low-carbon investment across supply chains. Members will benefit from this two-year sprint by mapping existing buyer alliances, learning what strategies can be implemented, and finding ways to encourage supplier participation in markets gaps.

We're empowering business with the knowledge to transition

The CDDA draws on WBCSD’s strengths as a global community of leading businesses working together to accelerate radical value chain transformation. This initiative recognizes that no single company can move critical, new clean technologies to commercialization alone. The Center is an action-oriented, results-driven platform for companies to adopt innovative tools to:

Define “near/net zero” products by using specific harmonized metrics, standards, methodologies and certification schemes.
Identify the different types of contracting vehicles and how each provides different de-risking benefits and increases bankability.
Tackle the challenges in leveraging current policy enablers.
Map current aggregated demand activities in light and heavy industries with advice on how to engage.

Prioritize demand acceleration to spur demand for materials, regions, technologies or sectors

Our partners

The Center for Green Market Activation™ (GMA) is a US-based, globally focused nonprofit. Through innovative book-and-claim systems, new and creative procurement approaches, and demand aggregating buyers’ alliances, GMA catalyzes and scales the uptake of low- and zero-carbon goods and services in the hardest-to-abate sectors. Their proven ability to aggregate demand and channel investment to nascent green commodity suppliers helps both suppliers and customers reach their full potential in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The Sustainable Procurement Pledge is a global bottom-up movement of procurement professionals, academics, and practitioners – for procurement, by procurement. SPP builds impact-driven connections to ecosystem partners, promoting procurement as a lever to accelerate change. SPP provides a non-commercial, safe space for open and honest peer-to-peer exchange. They equip, empower, and encourage the procurement profession to embed sustainability in all global supply chains.
