Taipei, September 2024: WBCSD’s Global Network partner BCSD Taiwan, with support from its  Taiwan Nature Positive Initiative  recently launched its “Nature Positive – Taiwan Report”, Taiwan’s first localized natural sustainability action guide. Julian Hill-Landolt, Nature Action Senior Director at WBCSD, attended the report launch event in July, where he shared forward-looking perspectives on nature action and related initiatives.

Following the adoption of the “Kunming-Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework” in 2022, methodologies like SBTN and TNFD have provided guidance to help businesses begin their nature-positive actions by identifying direct drivers. While some Taiwanese companies have started to recognize their operational relationship with nature and have adopted TNFD for pilot actions, many still lack clear direction on how to begin.

The “Nature Positive – Taiwan Report” aims to guide companies in identifying and taking effective conservation actions. The report is centered around the high-level business actions on nature (ACT-D – Assess, Commit, Transform, Disclose) framework, co-developed by WBCSD, WEF, and Capitals Coalition. It compiles professional information, assessment tools, expert opinions, and practical case studies from Delta Electronics and Cathay Financial Holdings.

The report highlights the risks of natural degradation and biodiversity loss, defines nature positive, and introduces the ACT-D framework, guiding companies through four stages of nature action.

Following the ACT-D framework can significantly enhance companies’ abilities to address natural risks and create long-term financial and social value. The experiences from Delta Electronics and Cathay Financial Holdings also encourage more companies to adopt the ACT-D framework, contributing to a nature-positive future and global natural environment.

The publication of ” Nature Positive – Taiwan Report” is mainly supported by Taiwan Natural Positive Initiative members, including Chunghwa Telecom, Taishin Holdings, Delta Electronics, Bank SinoPac, Acer, Qisda, Sinyi Realty, Advantech, Cathay Financial Holdings, Topco Scientific, and Wistron NeWeb Corporation

Most Taiwanese companies recognize the importance of nature positive but are not sure how to start taking their nature actions because of limited by knowledge and experience. BCSD Taiwan will continue to introduce international tools and case studies to Taiwan, helping Taiwanese companies become more familiar with nature-positive and take appropriate actions.
