Perú Sostenible [Sustainable Peru], the largest Peruvian network of businesses committed to the country’s sustainable development, organized for the third consecutive year their “Perú Sostenible” annual event, which brought together more than 150 organizations and leaders in sustainability from the country and abroad.
“The Perú Sostenible 2021 event is a meeting point to analyze sustainability and business practices, sharing impact stories and promoting good practices between business leaders, the public sector, as well as national and international multisectoral representatives. The goal is to share challenges, results and inspiration on how to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in Peru”, said Micaela Rizo Patrón, general manager of Perú Sostenible.
The event took place from 24 to 27 August, and it was divided into five areas: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Pacts. Among the presentations, experts addressed issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals, such as No Poverty (SDG 1), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Life Below Water (SDG 14), Life on Land (SDG 15), Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16) and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). In addition, talks were conducted by companies such as Statkfraft, ENEL, BBVA, Credicorp, Camisea, among others.
Leading personalities were present at the event, such as Peter Bakker, President and CEO of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), who presented Vision 2050: Time to Transform, an urgent business action agenda for all people to live well, within planetary boundaries, by 2050. “Sustainability is much more important now, is no longer about philanthropy or Corporate Social Responsibility, it really is about transforming business models. Sustainability is the only strategy.”, said Bakker.
Companies play a fundamental role in the achievement of the SDGs, since their work directly impacts the economic growth of the country, contributing to the reduction of social inequality, generating employment and investing in the improvement of the environmental conditions of the areas that surround them.
