The WBCSD report Vision 2050: Time to Transform gives answers to these questions, now also in Finnish. The report sets a shared vision of a world in which more than 9 billion people are able to live well, within planetary boundaries, by 2050. To achieve this vision, the report suggests transformation at scale, and urges business to focus its actions on the areas through which it can best lead the systems transformations.
At the heart of this framework are nine transformation pathways – actionable routes for companies to take – covering the areas of business activity that are essential to society: energy; transportation and mobility; living spaces; products and materials; financial products and services; connectivity; health and wellbeing; water and sanitation; and food.
Solving the three critical challenges world faces: the climate emergency, nature loss and mounting inequality, requires urgent actions. The COVID-19 pandemic has illustrated that these challenges are interconnected, and that our systems are ill-prepared for shocks. This is also emphasized in the new IPCC report.
”Events of the last week show us the human cost of a world that has become increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. The tragedy and suffering being inflicted on the people of Ukraine is top of our minds, but we also have to remember that the world also faces other existential crises: a climate emergency, nature loss, and mounting inequality.
WBCSD’s Vision 2050 is a framework for business action in line with these crises. It offers companies a comprehensive guide for the kinds of actions that are required if we are to drive transformation and create a world in which 9+ billion people are able to live well, within planetary boundaries, by 2050,” says WBCSD Director Julian Hill-Landolt.
”We are grateful to FIBS for their support in translating Vision 2050 into Finnish and to our Finnish members Kone, Neste and Stora Enso for their ongoing leadership on sustainable development. I am sure that the innovative power of Finnish companies will be play a key role in achieving our Vision,” Hill-Landolt continued.
”We are very happy, that this high quality report is now available to Finnish companies in our native Finnish,” says FIBS CEO Kimmo Lipponen. ”The role of businesses is central in solving the most critical global sustainability challenges. This report gives excellent practical tools to support strategic planning of companies fulfilling that role.”
