Baku, Azerbaijan, 14 November 2024 – The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Center for Decarbonization Demand Acceleration (CDDA) and the Industrial Transition Accelerator (ITA) are pleased to announce the release of the “Green Purchase Toolkit: From demand signal to action, a toolkit to facilitate transactions” during the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The ITA Green Purchase Toolkit provides practical guidance to help businesses procure low-carbon products and support the decarbonization of heavy industry and long-range transport sectors. It provides an overview of innovative market mechanisms such as collaborative procurements / buyers alliances, chain-of-custody models and green market makers that companies can utilize when faced with challenges in finalizing an offtake agreement. The toolkit outlines the challenges and opportunities associated with each mechanism and provides real-world case studies to illustrate their successful implementation.
The ITA Toolkit is the first deliverable of the WBCSD CDDA, a demand accelerator established to facilitate the credible, clear, and targeted demand for industrial decarbonization that is necessary to drive transformation at speed and scale. By joining CDDA, businesses not only contribute to a collective effort towards sustainability but also position themselves as leaders in the transition to a low-carbon economy. Companies interested can reach out directly via email at CDDA@wbcsd.org to express their interest and inquire about the membership process.
“Businesses need the solutions to activate their contracts for near and net zero products and services. This toolkit empowers them with mechanisms which convert their demand signal into action and drives the building of the 700 plants needed to produce the low-carbon materials required to decarbonize industry by 2030.”, said Nancy Gillis, Senior Director, Industrial Decarbonization at WBCSD.
The Green Purchase Toolkit will be officially launched at a side event during COP29.
