PublicationWe need a place-based systems transformation at the landscape level that places farmers at the center, with the active participation from the entire value chain. With nearly 50M hectares and 120,000 producers already or planned to be engaged through over a dozen leading multinational companies, the LAB is uniting financial institutions, agribusinesses, governments, and civil society around a common roadmap – to secure financing with the right instruments, advocate for effective policies and establish robust, context-specific metrics to track progress.
Investing in regenerative agriculture and sustainable land use presents a major business opportunity in Brazil, notably in the Cerrado and Amazon biomes, balancing productivity with environmental stewardship. By 2050, Brazil could expand soybean production from 150 to 231 million tons, and boost beef production from 10 to 13 million tons, increasing its global market share, all without any additional deforestation. These gains, driven by improved pasture management and healthier soils, could add up to $28 billion annually to Brazil’s GDP while benefiting over 600,000 growers and ranchers. Gains in productivity, cost reductions, and greater resilience in challenging years far outweigh the investment needed.
This executive summary presents the economic case for investing in regenerative landscapes across the Cerrado and Amazon biomes. It also introduces the Landscape Accelerator Brazil (LAB) – a joint initiative by WBCSD, BCG, and CEBDS under the Action Agenda on Regenerative Landscapes (AARL) – which is driving efforts to accelerate this transformation. Further details will be explored in a series of upcoming publications.
