Today, around 80% of industrial process heating applications source their energy from fossil fuels. This makes process heating by far the largest contributor to industrial carbon emissions.

WBCSD is releasing a Solar Thermal Navigator Brief to raise awareness of solar thermal as a renewable heating solution. This document highlights the technology’s benefits, limitations, key parameters for assessing suitability, and provides lessons learnt from successful project implementation across various industries.

This brief is part of a series of navigator briefs that provide companies with insights into technologically mature renewable heat solutions for industries using heat at temperatures below 400°C. The aim of these publications is to support companies in making informed investment decisions that will contribute to decarbonizing industrial processes, reducing long-term energy costs, and enhancing operational resilience.
